A unique themed wedding from A bride’s perspective

Q+A with Monica James on Creating a Magical Themed Wedding: A Bride’s Experience with the UP Theme

Themed weddings are as unique as the brides and grooms who plan them. There is something so special about walking into a space that just screams “US!”

The Pacific Northwest provides the perfect backdrop for couples to plan their authentic themed weddings. The stunning scenery and natural beauty of the region make for truly magical settings for couples to personalize their celebrations to make them an unforgettable experience for themselves and their guests.

We were so excited to connect with one bride, Monica James to discuss her experience choosing and planning her themed wedding. We picked her brain about why their theme was significant to them and get her advice for others interested in creating a unique themed wedding of their own.

Q: What was your theme and what inspired you to go with it?

A: We chose the UP theme because we both love Disney and got engaged in Disneyland. Before we were married I had made him an UP themed pumpkin for Halloween and he got me a cute grape soda pin. Also, the night we both told each other we wanted to get married—the movie UP was on tv! It has just always been special to us.

I have always loved the idea of UP and how it shows a couple growing old together and then him loving her after she is gone and dedicating his life to visiting paradise falls which is where they had always wanted to go together.

Q: Did you have any concerns about the theme?

We wanted the theme to be more subtle and not come across as childish, so we did a mix of UP but also kept traditional decorations as well.

Q: In what ways did the theme add extra value to your wedding?

We were able to incorporate Disney into our wedding which has been a huge part of our life, and now any time we hear the UP theme music while walking down Main Street we think of our wedding! It also felt more personal to us.

Q: What advice do you have for couples who may be interested or considering a themed wedding?

A: I would say to be creative, start early and have fun with it! It should be a very special and memorable day! If there is a theme you’re thinking of, I would say to do it!

Q: Looking back, what was the best part about your wedding day?

A: The live quartet playing the UP theme and also just seeing the wedding come together after months of planning it.
