Myrtle Creative Co.

At August Veils we specialize in creating custom veils, a beautifully crafted line of Pacific Northwest made veils, accessories and headpieces. We also specialize in updating treasured heirlooms and giving them new life, while maintaining the history and connection that each item carries. August Veils has seen everything from a 100 year old gown being turned into a veil, to using pieces of a 1980’s headpiece as hair pins to compliment a more boho style, to simply placing heirloom lace on a new veil. There are so many amazing ways to bring that connection into a current wedding day, and keep those loved ones close.

I originally didn’t want to wear a veil because I was concerned that it would hinder me from moving around freely on our wedding day. We didn’t have a traditional wedding, and I didn’t think it was necessary!

Bethany listened to my concerns and showed me that I still could have a beautiful veil that would complete my bridal look but that also would not be an annoyance to me! I gave her free reign to make whatever she thought would best suit my gown and hair style, and she executed my veil beautifully. It wasn’t in my way, didn’t weigh my hair down, looked absolutely gorgeous in photos, and bonus – my mother-in-law got her wish to have me wear one! Win-win for everyone!

August Veils is one of the most personable vendors that I’ve worked with. They have a way of making you feel like family. Whether it was giving me planning advice or reassuring me during one of the most stressful times, I connected with the staff in a way that I will never forget. Not to mention, my veil was stunning!

I didn’t know what I wanted out of a veil, I wasn’t the little girl that dreamed about my wedding day so I wasn’t sure I really even wanted one. August Veils not only helped me envision what I wanted on our wedding day but found a veil that perfectly matched my dress and the elegance I was looking for.

“It’s so exciting that something that I designed could be a memorable heirloom for a bride for years to come.” – Bethany Spence

My start in bridal is a very personal one. I was shopping with my sister for her wedding gown, when I unexpectedly fell in love with bridal. I fell in love with the genuine fun and joy the stylists had in their job, and I knew that I wanted to be part of this amazing world where you can be the dream makers for brides. After this peek into the magic I could have as a stylist, I am proud to have been one from 2010 to 2021.

During my years as a stylist, I was fortunate to come across Andrea, a local veil and headpiece designer and the original owner of August Veils, who often frequented the bridal shop where I worked. She is the one who showed me a new form of design that I hadn’t even considered: veils. I fell in love with how a veil could take someone in a beautiful gown to a completed wedding day look with just one accessory.

As the years continued, my fascination for completing a bride’s look never faded, and my opportunity to pursue this passion presented itself to work for Andrea in 2017. I have been sewing since I was very young and was thrilled to put my skills to work as an outlet for these incredible creations. The fact that something I designed and made could be a memorable heirloom for a bride for years to come, was an exciting and gratifying prospect.

When Andrea decided to retire in 2021 after 22 years, I was honored to take over August Veils and to continue the legacy she has worked so hard to build.

I am delighted and thrilled to take over this prolific business and every day look forward to helping future brides complete their bridal looks with a creation from August Veils.
